Years ago, Bradley Cooper once auditioned for one of Spike Lee’s films. However, Lee doesn’t remember.
Saturday morning, on the day of the Directors Guild Awards, the guild held a morning symposium with the five directors nominated for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film. Cooper, Peter Farrelly, Adam McKay, Lee, and Alfonso Cuaron were seated together as they discussed their craft and the steps they take during a project. The moment eventually became a venue for the five talented filmmakers to tell past stories.
At one point, Cooper surprised Lee by telling him about the one time he auditioned for one of Lee’s projects. Kyle Buchanan from The New York Times caught the moment and shared it on his Twitter account. Lee’s reaction is quite funny.
Bradley Cooper just revealed to a shocked Spike Lee that ten years ago, he auditioned for one of Spike’s films and read for Spike himself… pic.twitter.com/ypvHbht6VG

Of the five filmmakers, Cooper is the one with an extensive acting career before stepping behind the camera. Cooper began his acting career in 1999 and steadily found work until landing the role of the antagonistic boyfriend in 2005’s Wedding Crashers. In that window, Lee had made Summer Of Sam, Bamboozled, 25th Hour and She Hate Me. Cooper landing a role in any one of those films would have definitely given Cooper some more credibility as a dramatic actor. However, given the success he has had since his breakout in The Hangover (including being a member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Oscar nominations for his roles in Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, American Sniper and now A Star Is Born), it is highly likely that Cooper is very happy with the way things turned out.
