The Dawnshard novella has hit the three-quarter mark!

Brandon Sanderson may have raised nearly $7 million for a leatherbound edition of a ten-year-old book, but the dude is still churning out new content on the daily. This November, we will see the fourth Stormlight Archive novel hit, Rhythm of War. But, even then, he has more than one release planned in the near future. Dawnshard is a novella that’s been on his docket for some time, and following the conclusion of Rhythm of War, he moved on to push out that story for his fans.

As with the previous novella set in Roshar, Edgedancer, Dawnshard will clock in at about 37,000 words. That’s about 13,000 words short of being considered a full novel. And, speaking of calling it short, Sanderson recently took to Twitter to give an update on the book, noting the joys of writing a shorter tale every once in a while.

While Sanderson did estimate the book would run about 37,000 or so words, that is just an estimate. He always gives the caveat that everything can change in the drafting stage. I know many of us are hoping to see just that happen on some level — because more is usually better in Sanderson’s case. I also wonder about the scope of the story. We know that Rysn will be the focus of the story, but Sanderson has also mentioned Lopen as a potential perspective character. I can’t wait to see if and when it all connects.
