Dawnshard Novella Prologue Is Coming Out Today — Here’s How You Can Read It

The Dawnshard prologue is nearing. Here’s how you can get it.

Have you been busy reading the new chapters for Rhythm of War? Unlike a lot of authors, Brandon Sanderson isn’t shy about sharing a lot of his content for free. He throws out huge swaths of his writing for the internet masses. And given how long his books usually are, they’re pretty much small tastes of a much larger tale. Rhythm of War is a good example. That bad boy will likely clock in at 450,000 words or so, so releasing a couple of chapters a week for the next few months will still only give us about a third of the story before the book actually hits in November. But that ain’t the only tasty morsel Sanderson has for us.

He will also be giving us the prologue of his new novella Dawnshard today! But perhaps most interesting is that he is considering this a “rough” look at the prologue opening. This likely means the draft hasn’t gone by a copyeditor. Hell, maybe he hasn’t reviewed it himself at this point. Here’s the exact tweet from Sanderson on Twitter.

“I’ll be sending out the prologue to the Dawnshard novella today. All you need to do to get your first (rough) look at it is sign up for my newsletter.”

As indicated by Sanderson, if you want to get your grubby mitts on the novella, be sure to subscribe to his email list. Even if you’ve been preoccupied with Rhythm of War, it’s probably best for you to put that on hold until you read Dawnshard. After all, reading the novella will supposedly give you an extra layer of insight into some of the events in Rhythm of War (though it’s not clear how far into the book that’ll make a difference).

Dawnshard is the latest novella set in the world of Roshar, the first being Edgedancer. It takes place between Oathbringer and Rhythm of War and will follow the Thaylen merchant Rysn. In a recent livestream, Sanderson also indicated that Lopen could be a perspective character in the story as well, so I’m eager to see how it all plays out.

The novella is set to hit this October, roughly a month before Rhythm of War. To sign up for Sanderson’s newsletter, CLICK HERE!
