Wheel Of Time: Brandon Sanderson Has A Master Plan To Get The Series A Hugo This Year

SPOILER LIVES! New Secret From The Wheel Of Time Shocks Fans

Guess what, folks! The Wheel of Time is eligible for a Hugo this year. I know, the world of awards is super confusing, but let’s talk about it. Obviously, The Wheel of Time is a series that’s been around for (looks at watch) around 30 years or so. That’s a long time, for sure, and it’s been over seven years since A Memory of Light, the last book in the series, hit bookstores. And yet, somehow, someway, it is set to be eligible for a Hugo in 2020.

You can thank author Brandon Sanderson for that. Of course, fans of the Wheel of Time series know that Sanderson is the author who penned the last three novels in the series, bringing an end to the bold vision started by Robert Jordan. If you’ve been following Sanderson, you may know that he actually released a novella that followed Perrin.

The sequence was apparently cut from A Memory of Light, and released last year in a charity anthology. Though it’s not a part of the main continuity, it still has the potential for a Hugo. This means that it could very well get the entire series a Best Series Hugo.

“I’m tickled by this idea because the Hugo for Best Series was created in large part because of The Wheel of Time, which got nominated for Best Novel as a completed work,” Sanderson wrote on his blog. “I’m a big fan of the idea of a Best Series award. I’ve talked in the past about how some of the things we epic sf/fantasy writers work on are bigger than the sum of their parts. While I think the individual books are great, what is most remarkable to me about The Wheel of Time is its scope, its influence on the genre, and its plotting and pacing across fourteen enormous volumes.”

Sanderson concluded, “So if there was ever a series that deserved the Best Series Hugo, it’s the one that made everyone create the award in the first place.”

And you know what? The timing really couldn’t be any better. The award will be handed out this August. If The Wheel of Time wins, it is sure to be great publicity for the Amazon Prime original series. While we don’t know when the show will hit the streaming service, the fact that it’s deep in production is promising that it could hit around the same time as the awards ceremony.

Not to be political about it, but if the Hugos want to help bring more fantasy to the public eye, handing the Best Series award to The Wheel of Time would be in their best interest.

But what do you think? Is The Wheel of Time worthy of a Best Series award? Let us know your thoughts down below!
