Brave New World trailer hits!

Over the course of our high school careers, many of us had to read plenty of books that were a total bore. But one part of the curriculum I really enjoyed was our foray into dystopian novels. Among the best were the likes of 1984, Fahrenheit 451, and of course, Brave New World. While all three had their own merits, I found Brave New World to perhaps be the most interesting of the bunch. The reason for that was because of the facade it seemed to have other the other worlds.

Unlike 1984 and, to some extent, Fahrenheit 451, Brave New World is steeped in the idea of pleasure. Yes, society is being held down, but it’s not necessarily due to the threat of a stronger power. Instead, it’s because humans are very likely to give in to their baser instincts, and this ultimately puts them in a state of perpetual complacency. In essence, it’s how I mostly imagined us actually turning into a dystopian state.

Well, if you were worried about the Peacock adaptation of Brave New World losing that, fret not. It’s still there. Check out the trailer below!

As you can see in the trailer, the streaming series thrives on the concept of pleasure. In this world, inhabitants take a drug called Soma and also take part in massive orgies. This is a world that’s meant to be paradise to the average viewer. And to most people, it really is. But all it takes is one free thinker to realize the darker story being hidden beneath the surface.

I honestly don’t recall how the story plays out in the book, but this series will give me an excuse to revisit this world and rediscover it for myself. The production design and cinematography look gorgeous and I’m ecstatic to see Alden Ehrenreich leading another project after the ill-fated Solo.
