Bryce Dallas Howard is no stranger to the film industry. Her father is one of the most respected film directors with classics like Willow, Backdraft, A Beautiful Mind, Cinderella Man, and he even came in the middle of production to finish Solo: A Star Wars Story. One of his greatest films he directed was Apollo 13 which starred Tom Hank and Gary Sinese. In the movies climatic part there is a tense scene when the Apollo shuttle is making its way back into Earth’s atmosphere. The shuttle is surrounded by flames and going at high speeds towards the surface of the Earth. At the time of the film came out it was considered a cinematic experience that hadn’t been achieved before.
Fast forward 25 years later and now Ron’s daughter has become a successful film maker herself. On top of being a director last season of The Mandalorian she also got to direct the most recent episode. This time she got to recreate the same exact scene from Apollo 13 but in the Star Wars universe. Lucia Briones made the connection and posted on Twitter with a confirmation from Bryce herself.

It is pretty cool to see Bryce Dallas Howard be able to honor her father in this way. While this episode of The Mandalorian ranks up there as one of the best for so many reasons this little nod is something special. A shot by shot recreation of one of the most iconic film scenes and put into Star Wars is no simple task. As we get further into the season let’s hope there are more Easter eggs like this.
The second season of The Mandalorian is currently streaming on Disney+
