The Human Centipede 3: Final Sequence | 50 B Movies To See Before You Die

This week on the B movie docket is The Human Centipede 3: Final Sequence.

B movies are the glue stuck in between all the other genres, oftentimes refusing to conform to any particular genre presets. Some but not all of the hallmarks of a B movie include scripts that read like they were written by a room full of eighth-graders, poor visual effects, cringe-inducing dialogue, low budget production design, and zany plot contrivances. You’re aware of the hallmarks, right? B-movies often reek of amateur flair. Thought you were about to watch a great white shark hunted in dramatic fashion like only Steven Spielberg can deliver? Nope, this is Sharknado.

Why do we love B movies? I think B movies are comforting. You know what you’re about to watch is bad. If you’re fortunate it may be so bad that it’s good. You’ll often scratch your head trying to work out the plot. Out of the many good films you’ve seen, I bet you can talk with more vigor about the worst ones you’ve seen. They’re unforgettable. There’s something comforting about that I think. Besides they’ve been around just as long as the movie industry.

Believe it or not, chances are there’s a B movie for you. So I compiled a list of 50 B movies you must see before you die. No decade is off-limits. No rating is too taboo. For the next 49 weeks, I will introduce and recommend a B movie for your viewing pleasure. Yes, these are exciting times indeed my fanatical friends.

WEEK 33 – The Human Centipede 3 (Final Sequence)

The Human Centipede 3: Final Sequence

This week’s movie is offensive to just about everyone. I am warning you. I present The Human Centipede 3: Final Sequence. The third entry of a franchise that brought forth amazing visuals like people sewn mouth to butt. It was a wild ride leading up to this point in director Tom Six’s franchise.

For fans of the franchise it may not have been the movie they expected. The Human Centipede parts 1 and 2 presented an absurd premise contrasted it with serious acting. Final Sequence becomes a caricature of the two prior entries. Those films were very much like Eli Roth’s Hostel franchise. We were presented with people who felt real despite the absurd situations they were in.

Thankfully, this list is about B movies. It is as if the entire series were spiraling upward until it could reach the very heights of B movie greatness. Does it? It does. If there were a Hall of Fame for B movies. Then The Final Sequence would be one of the first B movies inducted into the annals of greatness.

Here’s the synopsis – To punish his prisoners, a sadistic warden (Dieter Laser) and his right-hand man (Laurence R. Harvey) hatch a scheme to suture 500 inmates together.

Watch this one expecting to wash your eyes out later.

RIP Dieter Laser

2020 has been full of loses and upsets. One of them was the German actor Dieter Laser. He has acted in two of the three The Human Centipede films. The series first introduced him in the debut film. There he played the demented creator of The Human Centipede. He played that role with a sadistic glee. That was 2010. South Park even did an episode about it.

Sadly, Dieter Laser died in 2020. But he brought to life two amazing characters in THC series. The second character being Warden William Boss. A penitentiary ruler whose showmanship might find him better suited in a traveling and murdering sideshow. Dieter Laser is one of the best features of the entire series. He will be missed.

Meta storytelling

The Human Centipede 1 (First Sequence) features Dieter Laser as the creator of the medical procedure that results in a Human Centipede. The sequel, The Human Centipede 2 (Full Sequence), the main character Martin Lomax is played by Laurence R. Harvey. He is inspired to create a Human Centipede of his own after watching a DVD copy of The Human Centipede 1 (First Sequence). Now here in The Human Centipede 3 (Final Sequence) both actors have leading roles. But they are playing new characters. Laser is now Warden William Boss. Harvey is now his right-hand man, Dwight Butler. The third film starts off with Boss and Butler watching a DVD copy of The Human Centipede 2 (Full Sequence).

Gross and Offensive

Now gross and offensive might not be much welcomed in your everyday run of the mill streaming choice. But they are two words that could sum of the watching experience. It is gross. You may feel gross watching it. And I am not sure who would not be offended by watching this.

Director, Tom Six certainly outdoes just about any film I can think of in those two categories. Without spoiling much, I will leave you with this. Warden Boss has a taste for human flesh. And that is all I can say about that.

The Main Attraction

The reason you watch a movie called The Human Centipede is to see a Human Centipede. Not just that, but you also want to see it in action. Crawling around in all its gross glory. In that matter, the Human Centipede here is a triumph.

The Human Centipede 1 (First Sequence) had a centipede comprised of three people. The sequel featured a centipede with a total of ten people. And the grand finale features a Human Centipede made up of so many prisoners I lost count. There are at least one hundred of them. It is massive. See this B movie before you die.
