Catherine Hardwicke is the director of the latest comedy chick flick, Mafia Mamma. A story with life disasters that are turned into laughs and life lessons.
The Synopsis
MAFIA MAMMA follows an insecure American woman (Toni Collette, “The Sixth Sense”) who unexpectedly inherits her grandfather’s mafia empire in Italy. Guided by the firm’s trusted consigliere (Monica Bellucci, “Malena”), she hilariously defies everyone’s expectations, including her own, as the new head of the family business.
After the Texan, Catherine Hardwicke graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with an architecture degree. Shortly after relocated to California to attend UCLA film school. Hardwickes debut as a director was with Thirteen with Evan Rachel Wood, Holly Hunter and Nikki Reed. Other known projects are Lords of Dogtown, a cult favorite Twilight and Miss Bala. Her work was seen last year in Tell It Like a Woman and in an episode of Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities. Besides being a filmmaker, Hardwicke has showcased as a production designer in films like Tombstone, Vanilla Sky and Laurel Canyon.

I spoke to Catherine Hardwicke during the Mafia Mamma press day via Zoom. She discussed which disasters she enjoyed bringing out with the actress Toni Collette and what it was like working in beautiful Rome, Italy. In addition to some of the fun Krav Maga moments while filming and more!
