Amazon Prime brings Chemical Hearts this weekend! The story is based on the novel, “Our Chemical Hearts” by Krystal Sutherland.
Chemical Hearts begins on the first day of senior year. Austin Abram (Paper Towns, Gangster Squad) plays Henry, the lead character that hopes for a once in a lifetime type of love. Henry thinks he found love when he meets the new transfer student, Grace (Lili Reinhart). They work together as co-edit for the school paper. He is curious and attracted to her mysterious personality. As the mystery unfolds he learns she is not the person he thought she was and discovers her sad story.

Every friend introduced in this tale adds to the dreamy, romantic story. Kara Young (Hair Wolf, The Punisher) plays La. La has a crush on Cora, played by Coral Pena (The Post, 24: The Legacy). As the movie goes on we see their romance blossom.
I interviewed Young and Peña via Zoom. They shared a little bit about the pressures growing up as teens. For Peña as an immigrant and Kara as a first generation American navigating and adapting to their surroundings. And they shared their experiences playing gay characters and what they hope viewers take from watching this film.
