June 21st, 2019 is set to be a very interesting date in theaters. Yesterday we got our first teaser trailer for Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 4, which is set to hit theaters on that day. Also being released in theaters on that day will be Sony Pictures’ Grudge reboot. But it looks like in an already busy weekend, another film is ready to jump in the mix.
Via their new Twitter page, we now know that Orion Picture’s reboot of Child’s Play will also be released in theaters on the same day. The film will star Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry and Gabriel Bateman. The Child’s Play Twitter page even sent an ominous Tweet to the Toy Story 4 page that read “See you then, friend”. You can check it out below.

The new film will follow a mother, played by Plaza, who gives her son, played by Bateman, a Buddi doll for his birthday unaware that it’s programming code is defective so that he has no limitations to how much he learns which includes violence. They have also released their first teaser poster that shows a warehouse full of Buddi dolls with the caption, “More than a toy… he’s your best friend”. Check it out below!
This reboot is based off of the original film released back in 1988 where the soul of a serial killer named Charles Lee “Chucky” Ray is transferred into a doll. This possessed doll ends up in the hands of a young boy by his widowed mother. This reboot is being produced by David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith under their KatzSmith Productions banner. If the names sound familiar that is because they produced last years hit It.
