In case you’re behind on your movie news, James Gunn has been rehired by Marvel to close out the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. You may know that he was fired a while back due to decade old tweets that were deemed offensive/inappropriate.

Gunn’s firing was controversial from the beginning, and he received support from colleagues in the industry as well as from the Guardians cast, especially Dave Bautista, who was the most vocal of the cast in his support.

Chris Pratt, who plays Star-Lord in the films as well as the Marvel Cinematic Universe recently spoke with PEOPLE and talked about what it’s like to have Gunn back aboard the Guardians ship. You can check out what he had to say below.

“I was so thrilled, so excited. I think it’s the right move, I really stand behind it. I’m really proud of Disney for hiring James back and ultimately thrilled for not only us, but also for the fans. I think it’s going to wrap up the trilogy in the best way.”

Pratt continued:

“And Guardians of the Galaxy are really all about second chances and giving people an opportunity to be their best. We’re a ragtag squad of people coming together and having each other’s back. I think it really worked out the way it was supposed to, and I feel good about it.”

I have always been torn on this issue as I believe private companies have a right to protect their brands as they see fit, however, I think it’s a bad idea to fire folks over things they said, especially things they said so long ago. This is a game that will turn petty very quickly in my opinion.

All-in-all, I am glad Gunn is back to direct the final chapter in the trilogy, as he gave us two awesome films, and I think most of us feel he’s the right guy for the job.
