The official trailer for the film City Of Lies has been released. The film will follow the investigation of the murders of feuding rappers Tupac Shakur and Chris Wallace, perhaps better known as Biggie Smalls. Based on a true story, the film stars Oscar Nominee Johnny Depp as a former LAPD detective and Oscar-winning actor Forrest Whitaker as journalist Jack Jackson.

While I am not a huge rap fan, these are two artists of the genre that I do appreciate. I grew up during the height of Tupac and Biggie’s popularity. I think they were both brilliant and masters of their craft. The events that led to them both losing their lives are intriguing, and after many documentaries, we will finally get a big screen adaptation of the story.

The subject matter by itself would be enough to get me to watch the film, the fact that Depp and Whitaker are in the film is icing on the cake.

City of Lies is directed by Brad Furman from a screenplay written by Christian Contreas and is based on a novel by Randy Sullivan. Appearing in the film along with Depp and Whitaker are Rockmund Dunbar (Prison Break), Dayton Callie (Deadwood, Sons of Anarchy), and Toby Huss (Halt and Catch Fire).
