Classic Story The Most Dangerous Game Gets Super Weird Quibi Treatment Starring Christoph Waltz

Apparently, you can’t really go wrong with a classic. I’m talking about the classic idea of man hunting man. The most dangerous game, so to speak. The story, I’m sure is a tale as old as time, but the concept was made famous by the Richard Connell-penned short story of the same name. That story follows a big game hunter ironically being hunted by a Russian aristocrat. Of course, that story has been adapted countless times on film, radio, video games, and TV, so it’s only fitting it’d get the streaming treatment.

And I have to say, this new adaptation looks like it could be fun. This new The Most Dangerous Game adaptation won’t be hitting a standard service like Netflix, Hulu, or HBO, but rather the brand-new Quibi. Take a look at the brand-new trailer for the Christoph Waltz and Liam Hemsworth-starring series.

Yes, it does look like a pretty standard thriller on some levels. What is perhaps most interesting to me is its format. Quibi is a name that’s short for quick bites, and the format really does live up to the name. These are full, A-list series meant to be consumed in small chunks — 10 minutes or less. What’s more is that these shows seem to be hand-crafted for the phone and its runtime.

These shows launch with new episodes every day. The scripts and stories are written to be small, and are therefore much more initially-engaging. Even stranger is that you can actually watch the film both vertically or horizontally depending on…your preference, I guess? I have no idea who’d actually prefer to watch it vertically, but it’s one less thing to worry about.

Quibi really does seem to be the on-the-go format for the busy person looking to get their entertainment in short bursts. Based on the Most Dangerous Game trailer and the format as a whole, it does seem like it could usher in a new life into streaming I didn’t think possible.
