The Mandalorian: This Classic Film Star Joins The Star Wars Universe

While The Mandalorian may be a streaming service series, it has plenty of A-list and classic talent filling out its cast. Of course, it had Pedro Pascal as the titular bounty hunter, but its supporting cast was no slouch. It also featured folks like Taika Waititi and Giancarlo Esposito in addition to classic film stars Werner Herzog, Nick Nolte, and Carl Weathers. We already know that Rosario Dawson is set to play the fan-favorite Ahsoka Tano. Now, we have another big star set to join.

Making Star Wars is reporting that Michael Biehn will be joining the expanding cast of the Star Wars series. While he isn’t exactly in huge demand these days, many ‘80s and ‘90s kids will recognize the characters he played.

The man will always be Kyle Reese to me from The Terminator, but he’s played man others. Some may know him as Corporal Hicks in Aliens or Johnny Ringo in Tombstone. Given his tendency to join gun-toting action flicks that range from both sci-fi to Western, he’s honestly the perfect addition to an already great cast. He slots right in alongside Nick Nolte and Carl Weathers, in my opinion.

So, who is Biehn playing in The Mandalorian Season 2? Details are sparse, but he will be playing a fellow bounty hunter — one who hails from El Mando’s past. Sadly, we don’t know the nature of his connection to Dyn Jarren or whether or not they’ll be meeting again on good terms. When it comes to the past coming back for El Mando, his track record is mixed at best.

All I can say is that I’m on board with the Lucasfilm continuing to turn to aging stars of the past for these key roles. It’s almost like how stars were brought in to TV shows to lend an extra air of credibility to the project. I mean, it’s not like the Star Wars franchise needs it, but there’s a classic and pulpy feel that it brings to the project that I didn’t fully expect.
