Colin Farrell and Keanu Reeves in the Mix Possibly as ‘Doctor Strange’

Stranger things have happened.

TheWrap has named Colin Farrell and Keanu Reeves as potential candidates to play the lead role in “Doctor Strange” after talks with actor Joaquin Phoenix completely ended.

They will join several others already being considered including Jared Leto, Justin Theroux, Oscar Isaac and yes—Benedict Cumberbatch. For some unknown reason, TheWrap also mentioned Ryan Gosling’s name out there, but highly doubt he wants to part due to family obligations.

So far, multiple sources told the site Cumberbatch is still the leading candidate, but the new season of “Sherlock” and doing theater may put the brakes on “Doctor Strange” plans with him.

Farrell will be filming the second season of “True Detective” soon and Reeves is currently promoting the action film “John Wick” that is in theaters later this month.

Scott Derrickson (“Sinister”) is directing the script from Jon Spaihts. “Doctor Strange” is one of Marvel’s hot commodities in the Phase Three plan. So whoever it is—it’ll be a great choice.
