With Jeff Goldblum reprising his iconic role as Dr. Ian Malcolm and returning to the franchise in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, one has to wonder if it’s possible that other classic Jurassic characters may return in the third Jurassic world film due out in 2021. Director Colin Trevorrow, who directed the first Jurassic World and is set to return for third installment, recently spoke with MTV, and while nothing was confirmed it seems he may have something in mind.
“We felt like [Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom] was Malcolm’s return. This was his… let him have his moment. I feel that way about everyone, especially Laura [Dern], in that she never got to have her own movie. That identified as being something that’s important. I feel like this moment with Goldblum, because he had this very clear set of ethical questions that he was able to pose for everyone, we just wanted to put the spotlight on him.”
I think most fans of the franchise would welcome the return of Grant and Sadler, I certainly would. I would enjoy seeing the interactions between Sam Neill’s Alan Grant and Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady, as well as Dern’s Sadler and Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire Dearing. And sure, it would work better if Trevorrow can find a way to naturally bring them back into the story as was done with Goldblum’s character.
