Michael Oblowitz admires the crime noir dramas that pit police officers seeking out the truth. Confidential Informant, this modern crime drama is more complex on many levels involving undercover police officers and a police informant investigated by internal affairs.
The film stars Dominic Purcell (Blade: Trinity, Killer Elite), Mel Gibson (Braveheart, Lethal Weapon), Nick Stahl (Sin City, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines), and Kate Bosworth (Superman Returns, 21).
Here is the official synopsis:
This gritty crime thriller starring Mel Gibson tells the tale of two narcotics agents hunting for a cop killer during a crack epidemic. Hoping for leads, Moran (Dominic Purcell) and Thorton (Nick Stahl) pay off a junkie informant. To provide for his wife (Kate Bosworth) and son, Moran involves the stool pigeon in a deadly scheme. This causes the partners to come under the scrutiny of a suspicious internal affairs agent, leading to an explosive finale.

LRM Online’s Gig Patta spoke with director Michael Oblowitz on the story, cinematography, cast, and the crack epidemic period in New York.
Michael Oblowitz is a South African filmmaker in New York’s No Wave subculture. His first feature was the avant-garde film noir King Blank starring Will Patton and Ron Vawter. He collaborated with several major New York artists, including Joseph Kosuth, Vito Acconci, Lawrence Weiner, Joan Jonas, and Spalding Gray. He broke into the mainstream in 1997 with This World, Then the Fireworks starring Billy Zane and Gina Gershon, which became an official entry to Cannes and Sundance. In 2001, he directed a police vampire film The Breed, that starred Adrian Paul, Bokeem Woodbine, and the people-smuggling film On the Borderline. In 2003, he made two action films with Steven Seagal in The Foreigner and Out for a Kill. And for the Sci-Fi Channel, he directed SharkMan starring William Forsythe.
