NBC’s Constantine series may not have worked out for the network. Ratings were low, and overall reception of the show, while solid, wasn’t brimming with enthusiasm. However, if there is one aspect that was well received, it was the portrayal of the chain-smoking occult detective (though he couldn’t smoke in the series) by actor Matt Ryan.
The CW has since taken advantage of this excellent portrayal of Constantine, and Ryan has since reprised his role in Arrow. That won’t be the only CW show he’ll be returning to. In addition to lending his vocal talents to a CW Seed animated series next year, Ryan will also be playing Constantine in an episode of Legends of Tomorrow.
The episode in question will be the 10th episode of the season entitled “Daddy Darkhest,” and writer/executive producer Marc Guggenheim recently shared a picture of a script cover that teases Ryan’s return:
Also of note is the fact that we actually see a cigarette in the photo. Does this mean Constantine will actually smoke in the series? Probably not, but it doesn’t hurt to dream. Either way, it’s a very clear homage to the character.
