Conversations With A Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes Review

It doesn’t take much investigating to come to the realization that true crime forms of entertainment are in high demand. Netflix struck gold with its Making A Murderer series. There are fictional shows inspired by true crime like HBO’s True Detective. Even in the podcast world, shows like My Favorite Murder and Last Podcast On the Left top the charts for listeners. True crime continues to fuel our media outlets and Netflix has added more fuel to the fire with their latest product.

Conversation With A Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes premiered on Netflix on January 24th and has been garnering truckloads of acclaim since then. The series tells the story of Bundy with the assistance of audio tapes Bundy recorded with an interviewer while sitting on death row. The 4-episode documentary series jumps back and forth between different periods on the timeline of events centered on the actions of the serial killer. Mixed in with the Bundy interviews are present-day commentary from those in law enforcement involved in his captures, escapes, trials, and execution.

As a fan of true crime content, this writer thoroughly enjoyed this series. It did not only provide insight into how officers, attorneys, psychologists, and journalists dealt with the horrors this deranged individual created. This series also presented an in-depth look at the psychopathic psyche of one of the most vicious serial killers in the history of the United States. It shows that the evil being that hides at night and waits to pounce is not necessarily a snarling beast or creature cloaked in darkness. It reminds us that pure evil can come in the form of an average-looking man who seems like a nice guy.

If you haven’t yet, give your self a 4-5 hour window and binge this compelling documentary series.
