Loving Kevin Smith is almost a requirement to be a part of the geek crowd. Almost. I get that there are a few people (weirdos) that don’t get his comedic style, but overall he is a beloved part of the geek and pop-culture world. Every year conventions like San Diego ComicCon, New York City ComicCon, South by South West (SXSW), and more give tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of fans the chance to hear the famous orator tell his tales.

Unless you’ve been in a coma, living off the grid, or challenging yourself to give up TV and INternet for the year you have heard about Coronavirus. The virus started out in China and has spread to more than a dozen countries, including the United States. The virus is spreadable before victims show symptoms, and has caused quarantines, delays, and cancelations of events, movies, and conventions. Now the multimedia convention SXSW has been canceled and Kevin Smith had this to say on Twitter:

Bummer. Was looking forward to the debut of CLERK but this seems like the right thing to do. My heart goes out to @JanetPierson, the city of #Austin, @MalcolmIngram and all the filmmakers who were set to show their stuff at @sxsw. https://t.co/ORLDn0WWJf

Smith humbly sends his regards to others involved with the SXSW convention and mentions that he was looking forward to debuting his project Clerk. For the life of me, Google is not telling me what Clerk is, I have searched every way I can think of and all get are things related to Clerks III. Maybe that’s it. I suspect this year’s conventions will all suffer from lower attendance and/or cancellations or delays.
