COVID-19, more commonly known as the coronavirus, has certainly made its negative impact on the world. From the roller coaster that is the current stock market to the many industries that rely on person-to-person interaction, it’s had people more vigilant than ever on their hygiene and daily routines. In fact, the Game Developers Conference has been postponed in light of the coronavirus, and it felt inevitable that E3 would follow suit.
Apparently, that isn’t the case. The Entertainment Software Association, the organization that runs E3, recently stated to Vice that E3 2020 will still happen. Of course, they are keeping a close eye on the developing situation, but don’t seem keen to make any swift actions just yet.

“We will continue to be vigilant, as our first priority is the health, wellness and safety of all of our exhibitors and attendees,” said the ESA to Vice. “Given what we know at this time, we are moving ahead full speed with E3 2020 planning. Exhibit and registration sales are on track for an exciting show in June.”
Of course, the event is made up of countless other companies and people. At the end of the day, it’s not completely up to the ESA. If enough devs and vendors pull out, I can imagine they will have no choice but to follow suit. That being said, one has to wonder if they’re keeping a close eye on the weather. Many expect the coronavirus to dissipate as things get hotter, and if that’s the case, it could be less of a concern by the time June rolls around.
