Could Emily Blunt Return For Sicario 3?

It only takes one look at the poster or a quick view of the trailer to realize that Emily Blunt does not appear in Sicario: Day Of The Soldado. While the film will feature Josh Brolin’s Matt Graver and Benicio Del Toro’s Alejandro Gillick, Blunt’s Kaye Macer sits this operation out it seems. However, Macer may be on the minds of filmmakers as they think about a third chapter.

Recently, producer Trent Luckinbill sat down with CinemaBlend to discuss the sequel’s release. Eventually, the discussion turned toward Blunt and whether her character could return in a third film. Luckinbill was happy to answer that question:

“Sure. Yeah. Absolutely. I think [writer Taylor Sheridan] certainly has some ideas about all of that, but we’re open to that world and certainly would love to bring Emily back. We haven’t written the script yet, but yeah it would make a lot of sense. We’re all fans of the movie, we’ve all come to the same conclusion, which is ‘It would be great to see her again.’ So I think we’re striking up those conversations now.”

Both films were written by Taylor Sheridan (Hell Or High WaterWind River), who will also be penning the third film. In Sicario, Blunt’s Macer is an FBI agent who is enlisted with a government task force to help fight in the escalating war on drugs at the U.S./Mexico border. In Sicario: Day Of The Soldado, Brolin’s Graver and Del Toro’s Gillick have been given the green light by the U.S. government to wage war against the Mexican drug cartels who are suspected of sneaking terrorists into the United States.

Sicario: Day Of The Soldado hits theaters next Friday, June 29th.
