Could Silver and Black become a Disney+ series? It seems highly unlikely given the characters are not owned by Disney. However, who knows? Read on for more details.
I’ll be honest and admit right now, that I have zero interest in Sony’s attempt to make their own MCU. Venom without Spider-Man in his origin was, well, it was ludicrous to me. I don’t get the idea of a Spider-Verse existing whilst Spider-Man is currently in the MCU-proper.
That status quo may not last forever, and maybe Spidey will come back to Sony’s universe? At that point, maybe I’ll have a look at what Sony has to offer. However, Sony will still have messed up Venom’s origin, no matter where they go from here. There, is another possibility, one we have heard rumors around before. What if Sony’s movies become part of the MCU-proper going forward?

I’ll be honest again, the thought I just voiced above, is one that frightens me. That being said, if it was Marvel Studios in control of the actual creative process, then I’d be less worried. It seems on first thought like a silly story, as until recently we thought we wouldn’t even get a third Spider-Man movie from Marvel. However, this latest piece of news is interesting, to say the least.
Filmmaker Gina Prince-Bythewood was previously attached to develop a Silver and Black movie for Sony. You have heard of this movie before I’m sure, and we all wondered whether it would ever see the light of day. Prince-Bythewood was asked about Silver and Black recently by THR. Her response was rather surprising, as she says that the latest she has heard was talk of Silver and Black becoming a limited series… On Disney+!
“(Laughs.) That’s a book! Things are the status quo on my side. I really love that project, and I do hope it can still happen in some way. It keeps going through different thoughts. First, it was going to be the two of them, and then the decision was made to separate the two. Now, there’s a thought of “Hey, maybe we put it on Disney+ as a limited series,” but I loved it more as a film with the two of them. So, my hope is that one day it can still happen.”
Disney+?
Now, that is quite the statement. Why would there have been any discussions about Silver and Black appearing on Disney + when it is a Sony-owned property? Even Spider-Man: Homecoming and Far From Home are not available on Disney+ and those are officially a part of the MCU. Is it possible Prince-Bythewood misspoke, or was confused about where this may appear? Honestly, that doesn’t seem likely to me. Instead, I’d guess that perhaps Sony and Disney are discussing quite a few things that may never even see the light of day.
I think if Sony could simply ride the coattails of Marvel Studios and get them to make Marvel movies for them, it’s a great deal. If that keeps Disney happy and still making a profit, then why not? However, I’ll be clear again, that for me, this means creative control being with Kevin Feige. If Sony thinks they can make poorer quality movies and just attach time to the MCU, then I see a potentially big problem ahead.
What do you think of Prince-Bythewood’s comments here, could Silver and Black become a Disney+ series? Is this evidence that Sony are discussing making TV shows with Marvel for Disney+? Let us know in the usual spot below.
