Craig Gillespie In Talks To Direct Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow

Filmmaker Craig Gillespie is in talks to direct Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow for the new DCU.

Filmmaker Craig Gillespie is in talks to direct Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow for the new DCU. Reported by Deadline, the trade says Gillespie is currently in talks with DC Studios to helm the movie which has already cast it’s lead in Milly Alcock. As per Deadline;

‘Cruella and I, Tonya filmmaker Craig Gillespie is in talks to direct Supergirl for Warner Bros’ DC Studios, we can tell you first.’

‘The plan is for DC to shoot the movie for Q4 after they’ve completed James Gunn’s Superman, which is shooting in Georgia for a July 11, 2025 theatrical release. DC bosses Gunn and Peter Safran are producing. DC EVP Chantal Nong is executive producing, we hear.’

Gillespie is a smart choice if talks go well given his experience in helming female led movies, which clearly Supergirl has to be.

It is thought that Milly Alcock was cast as she appears in another DC project before Woman of Tomorrow. For now, James Gunn who directs Superman will not confirm whether Alcock appears in that movie or not. However, there are other possibilities, especially on TV. Both Waller and Peacemaker Season 2 are due to begin filming this year for Max.

As DC Studios co-head James Gunn said about Supergirl previously, don’t expect just a female version Superman.

“We see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton. She watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life. Then came to Earth when she was a young girl. She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”

So, Craig Gillespie is in talks to direct Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow for the new DCU. What do you think of this news? As always, leave any thoughts below if you can.
