After a long successful franchise of Rocky and Creed, a Mexican boxer is introduced into the story with champion boxer Felix Chavez (played by real-life boxer Jose Benavidez). With many boxing families, Selenis Leyva is Laura Chavez, the aggressive mother and coach who guides her son through these matches.

Creed III is the next installment of the Creed franchise that follows Adonis Creed. The lead character is in retirement but returns to the ring after a familiar face returns into his life.

The cast includes Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther, Fruitvale Station), Tessa Thompson (Thor: Ragnarok, Annihilation), Jonathan Majors (Lovecraft Country, The Last Black Man in San Francisco), Wood Harris (Remember the Titans, Ant-Man), Mila Davis-Kent (The Resident), Florian Munteanu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), and Phylicia Rashad (The Cosby Show). Michael B. Jordan makes his directorial debut from the screenplay by Keenan Coogler (Space Jam: A New Legacy) and Zach Baylin (King Richard).

LRM Online’s Gig Patta chatted with Selenis Leyva about playing the tough-as-nails mother/coach to the Mexican boxing champ in Creed III.

Selenis Leyva is best known for her role in the Netflix comedy-drama series Orange Is the New Black as Gloria Mendoza. In 2019, she joined the cast of the Disney+ series Diary of a Future President and currently stars as Rosie in the comedy series Lopez vs Lopez. She appeared in the 2017 film Spider-Man: Homecoming as Monica Warren.

Creed III is in theaters nationwide tomorrow, March 3.
