Cristina Nava and Patrick Perez Vidauri knew the formula for creating a romantic comedy. It is always a man or woman who seeks love in the most unusual circumstances or places. Then find love when it’s least unexpected.
The romcom, In Other Words, checks all of those boxes. Some described the movie as a cross between Like Water for Chocolate and Sideways.
Patrick Perez Vidauri directed the film from a script written by Cristina Nava.
Here’s the synopsis:
In Other Words, is a romantic comedy about a tech geek who lands an investor for his matchmaking app. But when his app matches him with a beautiful girl who doesn’t speak English, he travels with his buddies to wine country in Baja, California, Mexico to prove his algorithm isn’t screwy.

LRM Online exclusive spoke with writer Cristina Nava and director Patrick Perez Vidauri via Zoom about this romantic comedy. They talked about the origins of the story, story location outside of Los Angeles rather than Baja California, the cast, and work-ation production at the wineries.
Patrick Perez Vidauri graduated with an anthropology degree at Columbia University in New York. He received his MFA in directing from the UCLA School of Theater Film and Television. His first feature film was Lola’s Love Shack, in which Cristina Nava was an actress on the project. He produced the Netflix documentary The Day I Met El Chapo, The Kate Del Castillo Story, and the drama Desire. In Other Words is his sophomore directorial feature film.
As a former actress, Cristina Nava transitioned into the world of writing for films. She started off writing a couple of short films in 2008 before teaming with Perez Vidauri on Two Feet In. She produced Lola’s Love Shack. With Perez Vidauri, they teamed up once again for In Other Words.
In Other Words releases On Digital and On Demand today and on HBO Latino in February next year.
