Cyberpunk 2077 Delayed Until September

Did you hear? Apparently, this is the week to delay your game. Earlier, Square Enix pushed back Final Fantasy VII Remake and Marvel’s Avengers, and while that was all kinds of sad for fans, that wasn’t the last one. CD Projekt Red got the memo and joined in on the delaying fun with their latest, hotly-anticipated title, Cyberpunk 2077. This game caused a splash last year when it was revealed that Keanu Reeves was involved, and the hype surrounding it has only grown since.

The game was originally slated for a March release date, but now, thanks to a new tweet from the developer, it looks like that’s not going to happen. The new date is September 17, 2020. Here’s what the dev had to say.

“We are currently at the stage where the game is complete and playable, but there’s still work to be done. Night City is massive — full of stories, content and places to visit, but due to the sheer scale and complexity of it all, we need more time to finish playtesting, fixing and polishing. We want Cyberpunk 2077 to be our crowning achievement for this generation and postponing launch will give us the precious months we need to make the game perfect.”

Of course, you have a mix of emotions being expressed online. On one end, you have supporters who remind other fans that delaying a game is sometimes necessary if you want a good game. On the other end, you have fans declaring their anger. Some have even gone so far as to say they’re canceling their preorder.

Where do you fall on the spectrum?

Personally, I’m thrilled by this. March was already looking crowded, and with Final Fantasy VII Remake being pushed there, I knew I’d be putting Cyberpunk on hold. Now, I won’t have to.
