Cyberpunk 2077 Has Been Delayed AGAIN — But The Game Is MOSTLY Done

Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed two more months.

In the world of entertainment, delays are frequent. But in the world of blockbuster video games, delays are inevitable. Seriously, almost every big title under the sun gets delayed at least once. Video games are notoriously difficult to make. Between the weaving narratives, countless side quests, and hundreds of moving parts, it’s easy for any project to get out of hand. In fact, this is a problem in the industry because it leads to inflated budgets and increased overtime. You’ve all heard about “crunch time,” right? Yeah, it’s a rough business.

So, earlier this year, when Cyberpunk 2077, among other games, was delayed, it wasn’t a surprise. It’s a big and ambitious story, and as a result, it’s been delayed yet again. This time, it’s being moved from September 17 to November 19. The update came via a Twitter photo featuring a statement from CD Projekt Red heads Marcin Iwinski and Adam Badowski.

The second paragraph of the statement features plenty of predictable lines. All in all, it points out how important it is for them to release the game when it’s ready. It also reiterates how difficult of a decision delaying the game once again was for it. However, it’s that third paragraph that really digs into the reasons why.

“At the time we are writing these words, Cyberpunk 2077 is finished both content and gameplay-wise. The quests, the cutscenes, the skills and items; all the adventures Night City has to offer — it’s all there. But with such an abundance of context and complex systems interweaving with each other, we need to properly go through everything, balance game mechanics and fix a lot of bugs. A huge world means a huge number of things to iron out and we will spend the additional time doing exactly that,” the statement read.

While it’s disappointing for many, the plus side here is that the devs will be able to better take their time. And, of course, launching with fewer bugs in the game is always a plus.
