Cyberpunk 2077: There Are No Current Plans For It To Hit Next-Generation Consoles

Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t coming out for several more months. If you have yet to hear that news elsewhere, I’m sorry to be the one to tell you. Instead of March, it’ll be hitting consoles on September 17, 2020, meaning that it’ll only be hitting PS4, Xbox One, and PC just a couple of months prior to the release of the Xbox Series X and PS5. With that in mind, one can’t help but wonder if CD Projekt Red, the game’s developer, is planning to release the game on said next-gen consoles.

“We are going with the same plans that we set,” CD Projekt Red joint CEO Adam Kiciński stated on a teleconference call (via Gamespot). “[Cyberpunk 2077] was always designed for [PS4 and Xbox One]. We are thinking about the next generation, but for now, we are focused on the current generation. That plan is still valid.”

So, does this mean the game will never hit the next-gen consoles? Of course not. All it means is that there are currently no plans in the works. At least none they feel comfortable telling us about just yet. This was a project that was created specifically for this generation of consoles, so I can imagine they want to keep consumers happy that they won’t be getting an inferior project.

That being said, don’t be surprised if, in a year or so, we hear about a remastered port hitting PS5 or Xbox Series X.
