In a recent interview Daisy Ridley says her new Star Wars movie is “not what she expected!” Speaking with Collider recently Ridley briefly discussed her upcoming Star Wars sequel directed by Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy. We already know this movie’s general concept, which is Rey rebuilding the Jedi Order. The era this movie is set, which is 15 years after Rise of Skywalker, has been called the ‘New Jedi Order’ era by Lucasfilm.
What Ridley has not seen though is completed script. Remember the story was being retooled by Stephen Knight and we’ve yet to hear if that draft is moving ahead. Speaking to Collider‘s Steve Weintraub Ridley confesses she didn’t know she was coming back until late in the game.
“I will tell you, Steve, when I saw you in Park City, I had not been approached. I was asked some, not by you, but I was asked something when I was there and strangely, people were asking me stuff and I was like, “No, I’m not doing another one.” Then it all happened after I came back. It was such a nice reception. I was shitting myself before I went on stage, because no one knew I was going to that. No one knew I was going to Celebration, bar like Kathy [Kennedy] and there were a couple of people. I was so nervous. Oh my God. It was such a wonderful reception. I’m very excited. The story is really cool. I’m waiting to read a script because, obviously, I don’t have any other updates. It’s not what I expected, but I’m very excited.”

For now Ridley says all she knows is this one film, so it’s not like she’s been contracted for a new trilogy.
“I know the storyline for one film. That’s not to say that that’s all it is, but that’s what I was told about. And I imagine it will be the next film, I think. I mean, again, I don’t know, post strikes and everything, how quickly everything will start up again. But yes, so far, I know the story of one film and I think people will be very excited.”
I guess we will just have to wait and see how this movie develops. The original concept for this film, as envisioned by Damon Lindelof had an older Rey not played by Ridley and the film was more focused on her students. I do have to say I think the idea to carry on with Ridley herself is a smarter one for now. Although, that is without the benefit of reading the scripts.
