In a series of recent press interviews director Taika Waititi explains why he’s out of Thor 5 but confirms he’s still writing his Star Wars movie. There’s nothing sinister in the Thor 5 story folks. This is simply a case of Waititi responding to rumors that Thor 5 is moving ahead without him. As Waititi explains, he’s pretty much booked out for the next several years. Therefore, if Marvel wants to make Thor 5 soon, then it can’t be with him.
Here is what Waititi said when speaking to Business Insider to promote his new movie Next Goal Wins. Waititi was asked about the rumors Thor 5 was in development without him.
“I wouldn’t know if that’s accurate,” Waititi tells BI. “I know that I won’t be involved.”
“I’m going to concentrate on these other films that I’ve signed on for,” he adds.
The outlet lists some of the movies Waititi is signed up for including the Star Wars movies he’s still writing.
“It’s still marinating. I’ve been writing it,” he says of the “Star Wars” project.
“So that’s six, seven years gone,” Waititi says. “I’d imagine another ‘Thor’ would be a lot sooner than that.”
“But I love Marvel, I love working with them. I love Chris,” he adds, referring to “Thor” leading man, Chris Hemsworth.
“I would never feel like they are cheating on me,” the Oscar winner says with a laugh. “We’re in an open relationship, and it’s like if they want to see other people, I’m happy for that. I’d still get back into bed with them one day.”

So Waititi is out of Thor 5 then unless they delay that movie for an unreasonable amount of time. But as for Waititi working with Marvel again, when he has the time, he’d be quite keen.
As for that Star Wars movie, Waititi echoed these statements in another interview with ETOnline. In this answer Waititi explained he’s taking his time because he wants to get this one right.
“At the moment, I’m still developing something with them. Like me, they have a lot of projects going on. I think they’re gonna push it until I finish these other projects,” Waititi told ET. “I’ve got about four other scripts that I’m trying to finish. My thing is I want to take my time with that and get it right. I don’t want to rush this movie.”
So that’s it folks. If there is a Thor 5 it won’t be with Waititi at the helm. However, he is still writing his Star Wars movie and hasn’t yet finished it. As always, let us know what you think of Waititi’s comments below.
