Damn, The Final Black Widow Trailer Is Awesome, But It’s Still Mildly Concerning

Over the years, it’s become clear the types of trailers I’m truly drawn to. When Black Widow first had its trailer drop, I know there were lots of people who felt it was overshadowed by the No Time to Die trailer. I was not one of those people. To me, that first Black Widow trailer did what Marvel Studio best: focus on character first and foremost. In some cases, almost to a fault. Rather than focus on the plot, they made it all about the characters, silly jokes and all.

This is the approach they have doubled down on in the latest trailer. The core of this new trailer is not only about Black Widow herself, but her relationship with her family. We now know that she is working to undo the same program that turned her into the fighting machine she is today. In many ways, she’s atoning for the sins of her past, all while confronting the darkness of those who did her wrong.

In true Marvel style, there was plenty of jokes and fun to be had. I can’t wait to see more of her relationship with her and her family, but it does lead to questions. Avengers: Endgame made it perfectly clear that she didn’t tell them about any other “family.”

With Natasha constantly talking about how she had nothing before the Avengers, Marvel Studios is going to have to do some real explaining if we’re to believe something this important and character-changing happened before. Based on what we know of the timeline, this will take place before Avengers: Infinity War, and that means there will have been at least five years where she could have been working alongside her family in Russia.

Does this all hint at a sad fate for all involved? Marvel Studios has hinted at Florence Pugh’s charcter taking on the Black Widow moniker in the future. But if so, why did we not hear about her before this film? I have plenty of questions, and while Marvel may answer most of them, I get the impression they won’t ALL be answered.
