Director Daniel Findlay Interview for Short Film Attorneys at Love | SBIFF 2020

Lawyers are the opposites of playing cupid and matching making. Attorneys at Love, a short film by director Daniel Findlay, is a comedic look in the mediation room that mocks a divorce settlement with certain foresight into the future of love. It certainly makes a hilarious outlook into the pre-court proceedings.

At the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Attorneys at Love is a feature short film played before certain feature films. It marked its world premiere at SBIFF.

Attorneys at Love is about two young lovers who are given a glimpse into their future relationship and must decide if they want to continue their life together.

The 11-minute short film stars Peter Krause (Six Feet Under, Parenthood), Kenneth Choi (Wolf of Wall Street, Spider-man: Homecoming), Megan West (This Is Us, How to Get Away With Murder), Mark Elias (Boy Makes Girl, 9-1-1 Lone Star) and Academy-award winner Angela Bassett (Strange Days, Black Panther) as the narrator.

Jake Palas (On Air + Style) wrote the script for the short film.

LRM Online sat down with director Daniel Findlay during the festival to discuss the original idea for the film, the cast, and his experience in the director’s chair. We even talked a bit about the Australian action film Kill Me Three Times, in which he was a producer on the project. The 2014 film starred Simon Pegg, Teresa Palmer, Alice Braga, Sullivan Stapleton, and Luke Hemsworth.

Findlay was also a co-producer on A Few Less Men and the upcoming film SAS: Red Notice. He previously directed a couple of other short films, including Antigame and Last Night.
