A little over a month ago, Blumhouse Productions confirmed two more sequels in the Halloween franchise, continuing the story arc that writers Danny McBride and David Gordon Green created in 2018’s Halloween. Thanks to a recent interview, we now have an idea as to when production will begin on the first of those sequels, Halloween Kills.
McBride sat down with Polygon to discuss The Righteous Gemstones and his previous HBO projects Eastbound & Down and Vice Principles. The interview eventually turned to the horror genre, where McBride was asked about the current status of the franchise. McBride responded:
“Halloween 2 starts filming in like three weeks. That’s already off to the races. The script is almost finished for the third one. Hopefully that’ll go at the same time next year.”
Other sources are claiming that production will begin on September 13, which is about four weeks away. In either case, it looks like plans are set for the next film in the McBride/Green vision of the Michael Myers/Laurie Strode saga. Green is returning to direct the next two films and co-write the sequels with McBride. Jamie Lee Curtis will continue to embody her iconic Strode character and reunite with her costars Judy Greer and Andi Matichak.
Halloween Kills is slated for an October 16, 2020 release. The final chapter in the McBride/Green collaboration, Halloween Ends, is slated for an October 15, 2021 release. McBride’s next HBO series, The Righteous Gemstones, premieres Sunday, August 18th and will be available for streaming on the HBO Go and HBO Now apps.
