Here’s my review of both Daredevil: Born Again S2E02 and S2E03 which both dropped on Disney+ this week. Personally I am enjoying Season 2 and one of these two was probably the best episode of Born Again‘s two seasons to this point.
I’ll cover/grade both episodes separately and for both I am staying SPOILER free.
Episode 2
I really enjoyed this one. Though it saves most of the action for a final scene, the point I think of this episode is escalation. We follow up on a few characters from the premiere and what happens next. However, there’s a general feeling of things getting worse for the innocents as Fisk tightens his grip. That’s not to say everything is going great for Fisk though. Daredevil is definitely rattling him as is the negative viral campaign.
I do wonder if some of the foreshadowing in this episode might be a little too on the nose? We will see as the series progresses.

I still don’t quite think Season 2 (as yet) is scaling the heights of the three Netflix series. However, I do think it’s tonally more in line with what fans expect from the MCU these days. The secondary characters of Born Again are finally being fleshed out, which was absent from the first Season and it looks good, with some well choreographed fights. That being said, I’m not saying with either of those last two comments we are at Daredevil Seasons 1-3 level. I guess therefore some fans will be happy and some could feel like this remains a little inferior.
I also think it was wise for Disney to release Episodes 2 and 3 together. There’s a lot of set up in 2, that get’s paid off in the next episode. Perhaps my Episode 2 ranking is higher due to me having that next step right away?
GRADE: B+
Better than Episode 1, well paced, some good action towards the end and a general feeling of escalation.
Episode 3
This episode I really liked and it’s up there as one of my favourites from both seasons of Born Again so far. There’s even a really nice action sequence which for once actually steps up to the challenge of those old Netflix shows. It was well done, well shot and exciting to watch. I don’t want to spoil anything, suffice to say it satisfied certain expectations I have for this series at its best.
There’s one or two character development moments we get in this episode which I’m not sure will work into their conclusion. Yet, now is not the time to get into that. Let’s see how things land in future episodes and I can circle back to this point if necessary. Ignoring some concerns for the future, there’s a lot to like about Episode 3. Most of the set up was done in Episode 2. Therefore, we get a lot of forward momentum in this one. It’s moving fast and there’s an element of tension which hasn’t always been immediately present in Born Again.
Well shot, well written and well acted episode with a banger of a fight sequence.
GRADE: A
Might be the best standalone episode of Daredevil: Born Again in terms of ambition and execution. Brilliant fight sequence and tense, pacey build up to an earned pay off.
What did you think of Daredevil: Born Again S2E02 and E03? Do you agree with my take on the episodes or are you looking at it differently? Thoughts below.
