Daredevil: Born Again To Dial Up The Violence On Disney+

The Daredevil: Born Again do-over is the subject today as Jon Bernthal says he refused to return for the previous version of Born Again. Plus, Vanessa actress Ayelet Zurer says she never understood the casting changes in the previous version.

With Daredevil: Born Again only a month out from release on Disney+, fans of the original Netflix series had early concerns about the gritty content being watered down under Marvel Studios. Such concerns were justified by the Man Without Fear’s awkward guest appearance on She-Hulk: Attorney at Law in 2022. Now, Born Again showrunner Dario Scardapane has relieved any trepidation about a lighthearted tone to the upcoming series.

In an interview with Empire Online, Scardapane explains how Daredevil: Born Again will be more than just the most violent Marvel Cinematic Universe show on Disney+. They plan to exceed the violence factor of the Netflix run.

“The level of violence is way up there for a Marvel/Disney show, I don’t think there’s anything else even in the ballpark. There’s a moment in this that is just absolutely bats—, and way past anything Netflix ever did.”

In a recent interview Daredevil: Born Again showrunner Dario Scardapane talks about his plans for the show changing and following the Daredevil series

In the same interview, Wilson Fisk/Kingpin actor Vincent D’Onofrio added to Scardapane’s view about Born Again’s direction. He clarified how the series is a de facto fourth season to the previous show.

“There’s a world in which you might think that if that show kept running, we’d be in this place eventually, or something like it. But we’ve gone further in the darkness, the action, the nastiness.”

Daredevil: Born Again marks the first time since the Netflix series ended in 2018 that Fisk and Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox) cross paths in the larger MCU. From the start of Phase Four, they have been kept apart. D’Onofrio reprised Fisk in Hawkeye and Echo while Cox cameoed as Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. As Scardapane teased their inevitable encounter in Born Again, expectations of another slow buildup to their usual bloody showdown should be checked out the door.

“If you look at how it ends almost every season, they punch the s— out of each other, Kingpin goes to jail, we know he’s gonna come back. I didn’t want to do that. This dynamic is way more tense. There’s one scene between them in the first episode that lays it all out. Then we spend the next eight episodes throwing rocks at it.”

Arriving on Disney+ on March 4 in the US and March 5 in the UK, Daredevil: Born Again co-stars original Netflix cast members Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Froggy Nelson, Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Fisk, Wilson Bethel as Dex, and Jon Bernthal reprising Frank Castle/The Punisher. New additions to the cast include Margarita Levieva as Heather Glenn and Michael Gandolfini as Daniel Blade.
