By this point, it’s very clear that actor Dave Bautista is pretty darn loyal to James Gunn. In the fallout surrounding the controversial tweets from the Guardian of the Galaxy writer-director, Bautista has been a steadfast supporter, even going so far as to say he may ask Disney to release him from his contract, should they not use Gunn’s script.

Given that Gunn was the first major filmmaker actually give Bautista shot at acting, it’s understandable why he’s so loyal, and speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show, Bautista embellished on how much his life was changed thanks to Gunn.

“I love James. James really changed my life, so it’s a personal thing too.”

“I struggled, I starved for three years, I could barely get a job. There were a few people who believed in me along the way, but James was the one who really changed the course of my life.”

Despite its box-office draw, the future of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise is up in the air.

Bautista continued.

“They are putting the movie off, it’s on hold indefinitely. … I have an issue, I have a moral and a political issue with what they’ve done. I have been very vocal about the way I feel and I’m not afraid to admit the way I feel. That’s the way I feel.”

Given how much more work Bautista has had since his role in the first Guardians of the Galaxy film hit, it’s easy to see why Bautista feels the way he does, but I’m also sure it goes beyond just having faith in him and giving him work. Gunn was essentially the guy to be there for him when Bautista was at a low point, and Bautista seems to feel like it’s his duty to do the same for Gunn, especially when he feels like he’s been unjustly penalized.
