Dave Filoni Hints At Future Conflicts In His Movie Or Ahsoka Season 2

In a recent interview Dave Filoni offers some hints at the future conflicts he's setting up for his movie or perhaps even Ahsoka Season 2.

In a recent interview Dave Filoni offers some hints at the future conflicts he’s setting up for his movie or perhaps even Ahsoka Season 2. So far Ahsoka Season 2 isn’t a thing, officially. Though, in the same article within Vanity Fair star Rosario Dawson said that Filoni has begin developing an outline for Season 2.

However, Filoni is making a movie. That movie has been described as his ‘Heir to the Empire‘ after the (now Legends) book of the same name. We have no idea if that movie is Filoni’s next project, or whether that’s planned for later. Maybe even after a possible Ahsoka Season 2? Though, Filoni does offer some hints at what future conflicts he’s setting up. Noting how they’ll be different from what we’ve seen before.

For a start, Star Wars has taken its first steps into a new Galaxy. Filoni says this will open up opportunities both for him and other creators who will come on board later. He explained he got the idea from the star map used in Attack of the Clones. Filoni explained he had to have Ezra and Thrawn somewhere they wouldn’t just be easily found.

However, it may be in the normal Galaxy where the  upcoming conflict with Thrawn will take place.

Future Conflicts Need To Be Different

“You know me, I plan for a long game. I really do. And that encompasses a lot more than it used to, as I help other people as well. I’m setting up what seems to be a larger conflict with the Imperial remnant,” Filoni says. “That conflict can’t just mirror what we’ve seen before. It has to take on a different shape. Can’t just be the Empire versus what looks like the Rebellion, or even the Republic. It has to be visually different.”

That’s a plus given that’s exactly what we didn’t get from the Sequel Trilogy.

Filoni also teased that those teases with the Mortis Gods at the end of Ahsoka were very much planned and ‘give you the shape’ of what Baylan is after.

“You have to be careful with that,” says Filoni, the ultimate Star Wars geek who nonetheless knows the peril of getting too arcane for casual fans to follow. “I know it’s a very specific group of people that would even know what those statues are, but I thought it was an exciting image, and it does give you the shape of what Baylan is after,” Filoni says.

Filoni discussed Baylan and his head-space, however he’s not telling us what happens next. As we covered yesterday in the related article below, this is the first time Filoni has been drawn at all on Baylan’s future. Filoni confirmed his story was planned to go on. However, now is not the right time for a decision to made following the far too young passing of Actor Ray Stevenson.

My guess is that Filoni’s movie is about Ezra, Hera, and maybe the Mando’s versus an Imperial remnant led by Thrawn. Whereas, I kinda felt like Ahsoka Season 2 would be focused on what happens next in the new Galaxy with Ahsoka, Sabine, Baylan and Shin. Of course it all depends what comes next. For now the answer to that question is The Mandalorian Season 4. However, that depends how much connection there is with Skeleton Crew.

What do you think of his comments as Dave Filoni offers some hints at the future conflicts he’s setting up for his movie? Do you think we’ll also get an Ahsoka Season 2? Thoughts below as always.
