David Dastmalchian Joins Gunn’s The Suicide Squad

Right now it’s without a doubt all about Avengers: Endgame and it’s epic conclusion to it’s decade long story line. With that said many other comic book inspired films are in the works. For example, over at Warner Bros. DC is currently in pre-production on The Suicide Squad. This new vision of Task Force X is being directed and written by Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn.

Part of the confirmed cast for The Suicide Squad is Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller and Idris Elba in an undisclosed role. Today via The Hollywood Reporter we have also learned that David Dastmalchian has joined the cast as the villain Polka-Dot Man.

Polka-Dot Man? Who is that? Well that is a good question as this DC character has only appeared less than a dozen times since he was created. He first appeared in Detective Comics #300 in 1962. Polka-Dot Man or Abner Krill is a low level crook that tried use spots as his criminal calling card that included all kinds of gimmicks. As we know by both Guardians of the Galaxy films, Gunn really enjoys using obscure comic book characters, which is why The Suicide Squad film is such a good fit for him. Other villains believed to appear in the film are Ratcatcher, who can control rats, Peacemaker, who loves peace so much that he is willing to kill for it and King Shark, who is a humanoid shark.

Dastmalchian is well known for his role in Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man films as the ex-convict Kurt. But he has appeared in many other DC properties like The CW’s The Flash as the villain Abra Kadabra as well as a few episodes of FOX’s Gotham. His first ever film role was in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight back in 2008 as an escaped Arkham Asylum patient turned Joker henchmen Thomas Schiff.

With what Gunn did with Guardians, I am very interested in seeing what he has in store for The Suicide Squad. What do you think of Dastmalchian addition to the cast? Have you ever even heard of Polka-Dot Man? Let us know in the comment section below!
