David Oyelowo and Keira Chansa on Working With the Imaginative Film Come Away [Exclusive Interview]

Come Away is a delightful imaginative film that enhances the storytelling of Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland.In this drama, the film follows a family that suffering tragically after the loss of one of the children. Before the loss, the children lived in their imaginations as Peter Pan and Alice. Once their brother died, the other two siblings struggled to balance the real world with their world of imaginations.

The film has a great starring cast, including David Oyelowo, Angelina Jolie, Anna Chancellor, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Derek Jacobi, and Michael Caine. The children in the film were even more spectacular with Jordan A. Nash, Keira Chansa, and Reece Yates.

Here’s the official synopsis of the film:

In this imaginative origin story of two of the most beloved characters in literature—Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland—eight-year-old Alice (Chansa), her mischievous brother Peter (Nash), and their brilliant older sibling David (Yates) let their imaginations run wild one blissful summer in the English countryside. Encouraged by their parents, Jack and Rose (Oyelowo and Jolie), the kids make-believe tea parties, sword fights, and pirate ship adventures come to an abrupt end when tragedy strikes. Peter, eager to prove himself a hero to his grief-stricken and financially-struggling parents, journeys with Alice to London, where they try to sell a treasured heirloom to the sinister pawnshop owner known as C.J. (David Gyasi). Returning home, Alice seeks temporary refuge in a wondrous rabbit hole while Peter permanently escapes reality by entering a magical realm as leader of the “Lost Boys.”

LRM Online’s Gig Patta chatted with actors David Oyelowo and Keira Chansa about working on this project.

For Keira Chansa, Come Away marked her feature film acting debut and being in the lead role. In 2019, she appeared in a filmed stage play with National Theatre Live: Small Island. She’ll soon make an appearance in a television series The Irregulars and a film drama called Faith.

David Oyelowo is a two-time Golden Globes nominee for his performances in Nightingale and Selma. In Selma, his performance as Martin Luther King Jr. in Ava DuVernay’s film earned him accolades and recognition. Remarkably, his film credits included multiple well-known films, including Lee Daniels’ The Butler, Lincoln, Jack Reacher, George Lucas’ Red Tails, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The Help, and the King of Scotland.

Come Away is currently playing in theaters and at home theaters.
