Ever since we first heard that DC was going to give Aquaman a solo film, information on the project has been scarce at best. With news coming recently that a trailer for the film is imminent, today we get word from Warner Bros. executives Toby Emmerich and Geoff Johns (though Johns will soon be leaving the company). The two recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly and discussed the film, both of which seem to be very high on the footage they’ve seen.

Toby Emmerich:

“James has done an incredible job with his team. The film is taking you to a different place and imagining the underwater world in a way you haven’t seen before.”

Geoff Johns:

“The underwater stuff has never been executed like this before. The visual effects shots coming in are just beautiful. James can switch modes from horror to big bright colorful action to really emotional scenes. He’s so able to hit all these different genres.”

We all know that while some fans still find the films of the DC universe entertaining, the overall direction has been a mess for some time.  I do enjoy DC’s characters, and I hope that Aquaman can follow Wonder Woman and take another step forward for the brand. I’m feeling good about this film, Momoa is great and Wan has proven to be a very versatile and original filmmaker.

Aquaman hits theater December 21.
