Phew, it’s been a day or two for Patty Jenkins and her future at DC with Wonder Woman 3. Now we have James Gunn responding to the THR article, plus more on Jenkins and what transpired with WW3. So, let’s get right to it.
First, James Gunn responds to the THR article that we covered extensively Here and Here. Or, you can catch Kyle and Manny’s chats about this article on Daily COG in the related section below.
However, here is what James Gunn had to say:
So. As for the story yesterday in the Hollywood Reporter, some of it is true, some of it is half-true, some of it is not true, & some of it we haven’t decided yet whether it’s true or not.

Peter & I chose to helm DC Studios knowing we were coming into a fractious environment, both in the stories being told & in the audience itself & there would be an unavoidable transitional period as we moved into telling a cohesive story across film, TV, animation, and gaming.

We know we are not going to make every single person happy every step of the way, but we can promise everything we do is done in the service of the STORY & in the service of the DC CHARACTERS we know you cherish and we have cherished our whole lives.

As for more answers about the future of the DCU, I will sadly have to ask you to wait. We are giving these characters & the stories the time & attention they deserve & we ourselves still have a lot more questions to ask & answer. pic.twitter.com/sxwKGRD3vc

I love that Gunn is the type of guy to actually comment on leaks and rumors and I think one thing that has been pretty clear around all this is that you should never trust trades 100%. How can we when we are getting different trades telling slightly different stories? As Gunn so successfully conveys, there are probably truths, and falsehoods in all the trades stories.
Wonder Woman 3
Now, one thing most of the trades and leakers seems to agree on is that new DC bosses Gunn and Peter Saffran were not that heavily involved with what happened with Wonder Woman 3. Though otherwise, depending on who you listen to the story changes. We have THR, Deadline, and more all chiming in. Oh here’s the original Deadline report mentioned above also.
There are claims that Jenkins failed to hand in a completed script on time. Or, there is a narrative that the executives previously looking after WW3 were left with a script they simply didn’t like which had similar issues to that of WW84. A common agreement is that WB asked Jenkins to take another shot with a different pitch after rejecting this one. However there also appears to be talk of Jenkins making the decision herself and walk away.

The Wrap claims Jenkins rejected the suggestion of trying again after her script was rejected. That outlet also claims that Jenkins was not a happy bunny and had a few digs on her way out the door as it were.
Oh and then we had Dwayne Johnson react to the idea that the DCU would be rebooted below as well.
That’s it brotha, you already know.
It’s all noise 👊🏾🥃— Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) December 8, 2022
And finally, some non-DC related Patty Jenkins bashing as Jeff Sneider says he heard Rogue Squadron was a mess on the latest The Hot Mic show. Now, the one caveat I’d say with this story is that Jenkins isn’t the writer on Rogue Squadron. Ergo, it would not be Jenkins work being criticized if a script was handed in and wasn’t working. However, it’s apparently the week to have a bash at Patty so, here’s another one.
What do you think of the latest on Wonder Woman 3, Patty Jenkins, the future of DC and James Gunn’s comments? As always, leave any thoughts you have below.
