Lost in all the “OMG! JLA! ZACK SNYDER! BACK-TO-BACK!” mayhem on Sunday night, was this little gem in the Wall Street Journal article that confirmed that news:
“Warner Bros. has several other movies in development unconnected to the Justice League that are based on DC superheroes and fantasy and crime titles from its Vertigo line of genre comics, said Mr. Silverman and Toby Emmerich, president of Warner’s New Line Cinema label. They include ‘Shazam,’ ‘Metal Men,’ ‘100 Bullets,’ and ‘Fables.'”
This calls to mind the quote from Guillermo del Toro last year, where he revealed that there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to WB/DC’s plans:
“They are making plans for the entire DC Universe. All the superheroes, all the mythologies, and part of that is Justice League Dark. They’re planning on TV, movies, all the media, so we have to fit within that plan.”
So DC fans, take heart! It looks like there’ll be plenty of content on the way from the studio. How far into development any of it is is anyone’s guess. But we know they’ve got plenty of irons in the fire right now- to which all I can say is: It’s about time! Do you realize that WB has owned DC since 1969? It’s taken them quite a while to realize what could be done with that property. Glad to hear they’re finally working on maximizing the brand’s potential.
Which of these announced adaptations are you most excited about?
