Not only was Deadpool 2 a box office success and adored by critics and audiences alike, but also filled with a few cameos, including Brad Pitt’s very brief stint as Vanisher. However, there was one well-hidden cameo in the film that no one was aware ever until recently. An Academy Award winner, no less: Matt Damon.
What made Matt Damon even consider appearing in Deadpool 2? Co-writer Rhett Reese revealed on the Blu-Ray set’s special features how the Damon cameo came about:
“It’s been sort of an old runner of mine. I’ve told my friends this and people know this about me. I do this bit about the inadequacy of toilet paper to create the appropriate hygiene for a human being. So I did it for Ryan at one point and we just all looked at each other and said, ‘well this has to go into the movie somehow.'”

Reese continued on regarding who would portray the character who delivers the original dialogue. Reese felt it was something that required a big name:
“So then we thought, ‘well, what caliber actor would we need to do a scene where two rednecks talk about wiping themselves after spending some time on the toilet.’ Of course, you have to have somebody Oscar caliber doing that kind of bit. Matt was very receptive so Ryan ended up sending him the pages. Matt called him back and said ‘I’m in.'”
Personally, I love when Oscar-caliber and A-List stars take small cameos like this. It brings a fun dimension to their creative ability. This also leaves me wondering if Damon may become the new Marvel cameo person, since he also appeared in Thor: Ragnarok. Perhaps we could get one where both Damon and Stan Lee are in the same scene together. Who knows?!
