Last year could have been the year of Deadpool — or at least the year of more Deadpool than we already got (which includes one and a half movies, if you count Once Upon a Deadpool). Remember that little Deadpool animated series that Donald Glover was working on for FX? Yeah, that one that was canceled under mysterious circumstances? The one where Donald Glover released an episode script page-by-page on his Twitter not long after said cancelation?
Yeah, I think we’re talking about the same one. All that was said at the time was that due to creative differences, FX, Donald Glover, Stephen Glover, and Marvel Television all agreed to go their separate ways. There were no details given as to who thought what of who and who ultimately pulled the plug and fans were left to pick sides as to who they thought the bad guy was. Well, wonder no more! At at the TV Critics Association press tour, FX President John Landgraf threw Marvel under the bus.
“Deadpool didn’t work out because Marvel didn’t want to make it. It didn’t fit what they wanted to do with Deadpool and it’s their brand and their decision. They didn’t want to do the show that Donald and Stephen [Glover] wrote. We would have done the show that Donald and Stephen wrote, but it wasn’t our decision. When Marvel decided not to do that show, we parted company with them, as did Donald and Stephen.”

The rest is history. As a result, we no longer have a Deadpool animated series. Some may argue it’s for the best considering the potential for oversaturation, but with the franchise’s future in film is questionable thanks to the Disney acquisition, now may be the best time to get an animated film.
