It seems that Destin Daniel Cretton is making a comedy series for Marvel on Disney+. Yesterday we covered the story that Daniel Cretton had signed a new overall deal with Marvel. The Deadline report we sourced said Destin was making Shang-Chi 2 and a live-action Disney+ series. Given some earlier rumors about this I assumed we might be getting a Ten Rings show starring Xialing. However Variety‘s coverage of the same story says this.
Not much is known about Cretton’s Marvel series on Disney Plus, but sources tell Variety it is a comedy.
That does not rule out a Ten Rings based show, but at the same time it hardly screams it either? I think we may just have to wait for some more information before we can even start guessing what the show could be about. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings certainly had comedic elements. However that’s true of almost all Marvel Studios movies and Shang-Chi was also very spiritual and emotional.
I said in the previous article linked above that Shang-Chi 2 was confirmed whereas the Ten Rings show was merely an old rumor. All that initial Deadline report said there was a show, no context. The idea of a comedy series doesn’t fill me with enthusiasm, but I’m not a massive fan of comedies anyway. Serious films with humor, great, all out comedies, only a very few classics have ever impressed me. I am therefore much more excited to see where things go in Shang-Chi 2. However I won’t judge this show until we know more.
What do you think of the report Destin Daniel Cretton making a comedy series for Marvel? As always, leave any thoughts you have below about that news or the upcoming Shang-Chi 2.
