Many kids around the world have grown up with the misadventures of Greg Heffley in Diary of a Wimpy Kid. This book series created by author and cartoonist Jeff Kinney has a unique charm and realism to them that kids are able to relate to. Since it’s launch in 2007 over 250 million copies of the series have been sold around the world. The series was #1 New York Best Seller for 114 weeks. As well as winning many Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. It did so well that the books series made its way to the big screen in 2010 with two sequels that followed it.

Today Diary of a Wimpy Kid is back on our screens, this time in an animated form on Disney+. This film features the telling of Kinney’s first story with Greg that launched the ever-so-popular kids’ franchise. It has been created in a 3D animated format that makes its seem like the characters are jumping out of the pages of the book and into our screens.

With the release of Diary of a Wimpy Kid on Disney+, LRM Online’s Emmanuel Gomez spoke with the creator of the franchise, Jeff Kinney. On the animated series, he also serves as a producer. In our interview, he shares with us what kind of relationship a creator develops with a character that they have been involved with for so long. Especially someone like Greg Heffley. Then he goes on to share his experience of seeing his character being brought to life in an animated form that was more true to what kids see in the books. Last but certainly not least, he shares with us some thoughts about his journey from wanting to be a cartoonist to now being such a well-known figure in kids’ books. Directed by Swinton Scott (“Futurama”) and written and produced by Jeff Kinney,  “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” features the voices of Brady Noon (“The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers”) as Greg Heffley, Ethan William Childress (“mixed-ish”) as Rowley Jefferson, and Chris Diamantopoulos (“Silicon Valley”) as Frank Heffley.
