Is Bruce Campbell heading to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness?

We’ve known this for months at this point, but the MCU will finally be hosting a Sam Raimi film. The horror director helped kickstart its generation of superhero films, but hasn’t really touched one of the films since Spider-Man 3. However, as we reported yesterday, the filmmaker pretty much confirmed he would be taking on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. While it was disappointing to see Scott Derrickson exit, I think most are excited to see what Raimi would bring to the table.

But not only were fans wondering WHAT he would bring to the movie…but WHO. More specifically, would Sam Raimi be bringing his buddy Bruce Campbell? Fans know that both Raimi and Campbell got their start in the camp horror classic Evil Dead. Ever since then, the two have been connected throughout the entirety of their careers. Campbell even cameoed in each of the Spider-Man films of the 2000s.

So, does that mean we can expect Campbell to pop up in a fairly big role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness? Campbell himself quoted the news of Raimi joining the film and went on to say the following.

So, what does this mean? Well, it can mean a few of things. First, it could mean that Campbell is simply sharing the post and being cheeky. Second, it could mean Campbell is publicly pushing for some sort of role in the film — be it big or small — from Raimi and co. Third, it could mean he’s hinting at a role in the film.

If it’s the third one, it’d be hard to imagine he’d be hinting at anything other than a fairly large role. After all, the implication is that his character could be butting heads with the Sorcerer Supreme. But who could it be? One clever fan points to Mephisto, a character that fits nicely into Campbell’s wheelhouse. While the character does have a history with various other characters, his crossing paths with Doctor Strange isn’t unfounded.
