“Us Again,” the new theatrical short from Walt Disney Animation Studios, follows one magical night in the lives of an elderly man and his young-at-heart wife who find the years fade away when they rediscover the joy of dancing and music. Director Zach Parrish, producer Brad Simonsen, award-winning choreographers/dancers Keone and Mari, and acclaimed composer Pinar Toprak (“Captain Marvel”) brought their unique talents to this musical fantasy. “Us Again” is playing exclusively in theaters with Disney Animation’s, “Raya and the Last Dragon” beginning March 5, 2021. © 2021 Disney. Even for a short animated film, it takes a village of creators to make the project work. Especially if we are talking about a project like Disney Animation’s Us Again. In this animated short, we find a deeply personal story from the mind of director Zach Parrish. One that is all told through music and dance with absolutely no dialogue.
To help bring Us Again to life Parrish enlisted the help of the very talented Keone and Mari Madrid. They are award-winning choreographers and acclaimed dancers, directors, and above all else spouses and parents. They have an amazing ability to be able to tell stories through inventive choreography and human gestures. Currently, they are developing two new Broadway-bound shows including the Britney Spears musical Once Upon A One More Time. As well as the Karate Kid musical.
In a previous piece, we had talked about Parrish’s inspiration behind Us Again. The fact of the matter is that none of us are getting any younger. Some things will just get harder to do as we age. The question is how will we react to these natural changes in our bodies? Depending on our personalities some of us may take a positive spin, while others may be stuck in the rain.
LRM Online has already talked to some of the creative team behind Us Again. Including composer Pinar Torak and producer Brad Simonsen. Now Emmanuel Gomez had the privilege of speaking with Zach Parrish. As well as the choreographers Keone and Mari Madrid. We talk about the melody of talent that had to come together and each in their respective roles added to the beautiful final product. We also talk about the process to create dances for an animated film. It’s a fantastic conversation that you can check out down below!
Set in a vibrant city pulsating with rhythm and movement, an elderly man and his young-at-heart wife rekindle their youthful passion for life and each other on one magical night. The years fade away as the joy of dancing propels them across the exciting cityscape of their youth and revives fond memories and ambitions.
