Does This Latest Trailer For Pixar’s Soul Give Too Much Away?

Did the new trailer for Pixar’s Soul give too much away about the movie?

I’m one of those weirdos who doesn’t often complain about the trailers giving too much away. Some people like to go into movies knowing as little as possible. But that’s not me. While I don’t like the entire plot given away, I do like to know the base premise of the film. It’s one of the reasons why I hated the marketing for Pixar’s Brave. They didn’t even reveal what the core premise of the film was, and that led to a base misunderstanding of what to expect in the movie.

Of course, there’s the other side of the coin. You have films like Sing. Not only did they give away too many of the gags from the movie, but they give away no less than two of the character arcs. And then there’s Soul. This is Pixar’s next outing, and I know I’m not alone in thinking this one will be pulling at the heartstrings pretty intensely. But does it give too much away in the trailer? Check it out for yourself.

So…what is too much? I honestly think around 80% of what they show is fair game. From his “death” to his journey in the after and beforelife. His run-in with Tina Fey’s character, and the entire point of the movie. They show off a bunch of potential new shenanigans the characters can go through and give us an idea of what we can expect. Mission accomplished.

But the trailer kept going. It showed that Joe Gardner is actually still alive. Now, this may be an early twist, but based on the way it played out, with him jumping down, it feels like something that goes beyond act one. And then, we get an extra reveal at the end with the counters realizing that things are off. This introduces a potential new threat in Soul that was previously unforeseen.

All in all, I think those three things are just a bit too much and could lead to some twists and turns not landing as effectively. That being said, Pixar has always managed to surprise on some level. So long as the storytelling is sound, I’m sure they’ll manage to impress. What did you think of this new trailer? Let us know your thoughts down below!
